Matt,

By design, user names can contain a-z,A-Z,0-9,-,.,~,_,$ and they can not
start with . (like file names btw.)

When I try and create user names with @ signs (that is, I'm trying to create
usernames out of email addresses), I get an error. Is that by design, or is
it a bug? Is there a good reason for not allowing @'s in usernames?
