[opencms-dev] Not able to login as Admin

I've been looking through the archives and haven't found anything 
related to this yet.  I've just installed the OpenCMS and gotten to the 
login screen.  When I enter the Admin/admin inital password, the login 
screen just returns.  The only entry I get in the opencms.log is:

The only thing which looked odd otherwise was this entry in the mysql.log:

I was wondering if there was a characterset mismatch.  Tomcat is using 
ISO-8859-1, while mysql is using UTF-8.

The setup is:
Servlet container    : Apache Tomcat/4.1.24-LE-jdk14
Java VM in use       : Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.4.2-b2
OpenCms version      : 5.0.0 Kaitain

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this futher would be appreciated.
