[opencms-dev] openCMS as document management system: somequestions

Dear fellow OpenCMS-developers,

I have a dream

I have a dream that by the end of tomorrow I have made a new view module for openCMS. You may help me realize this dream if you wish :)

The module doesn't really have to be earth-shocking. Let's say it only has to be the explorer view, without the documents part (the right pane). I guess I only have to copy paste the current explorer view module. Delete the part in the .jsp that refers to the documents and build it as a new view module, and then upload it. It can't be that hard now can it. Set me on my way, and it will be the start of opencms as a document management system. Has anybody, really anybody built a view module yet? Let me know. there is a young man's dream at stake here. You could for instance point out where the explorer view module jsp resides (I have the source in front of me), how I can build the module and define it as a view module(via the "new module" option in module management?). Anything helps. Thanks.

Regards,
Jan

We want to use a lot of the functionality of the openCMS workplace, but show it in a different way. For instance, Folders would be dossiers, and wouldn't be shown i a tree, but in a filtered list. On the right side of the screen the documents belonging to a certain dossier would be shown. Per dossier you would also have some standard documents already available when you create a new dossier. The Users would than be able to upload their versions of these standard documents. The standard documents wouldn't really be documents then, but more like folders to hold the versions of the documents the users upload.

I guess you could do that... for the most part, all you're really doing
is changing iconography and setting up a couple of unique behaviors. I'd
imagine you'd use projects to implement the "filtered" appearance.

That said, I'm fairly sure you'll have to do a good deal of (re)coding
of the workplace XML Templates and classes, since you are making a
fairly large change in the workplace "paradigm".
