Dear Bernard,
 
We had the same problem with one of our clients who didn't want the
OpenCms Workplace to be accessible to outside users.
 
We used Java servlet filtering technology (supported by Tomcat) to
filter all requests, and block all outside requests to the Opencms
Workplace. 
 
Maybe someone else has a simpler, smarter solution, but at least this
works fine.
