[opencms-dev] Large files?...

Hi opencmsers,

For large files (i.e documents, programs) using the vfs is undesirable.
    -You get 3 fold duplication of information if you are statically
exporting,
    -they become very slow to upload,
    -very very slow to publish (some non-linear time cost stuff going on)

How have people approached this issue?

Is it possible to upload the file directly to the export directory and
leave a link in its place in the vfs?

My current thinking is to generate download pages based on the actual file
system, but this means bypassing opencms for large uploads and using ftp
instead. Please, all thoughts welcome,
