Sorry for being extremely vague here, but in one of the xml-files 
containing the opencms configuration, I saw an xml construct containing 
the known locales.
It's just a simple list of the locales that are known, but I forgot with 
file it was in.

And then an additional, search-specific configuration is contained in 
opencms-search.xml
