[opencms-dev] OpenCms 7.x: WebDAV - no overwriting of files possible - just for confirmation

Hi Michael, hi Christian,
thanks a lot for your answers. I digged even deeper into that WebDAV thing. My main purpose is to evaluate, if OpenCms gives the possibility of using it as a kind of document management system. Mainly for copying and editing office documents (doc, xls, pdf...) without going to the OpenCms workspace.
By now, even with the recommended tools (WebDrive), I think OpenCms is far away from that.
Even with WebDrive
- I cannot overwrite pdf files (copy from local drive to the webdav drive)
- OpenCms does not recognize office documents as binary type but as plain text
Can anybody confirm this behaviour on a standard 7.5.1 installation?
Apart from, that I already heard about the Windows XP web folders being not very good, I have to say, when using them with Liferay, I can do everything I can imagine (copy, move, delete, create resources, double-click / edit / save).
So is it possible, that there might be some (minor) bugs in the WebDAV implementation of OpenCms?
Are there more people
- with experience in OpenCms with WebDAV?
- Who know other tools similar to WebDrive / WebDrive?
- Who know a good document management solution which can be plugged into OpenCms?
Thanks a lot for your help
Regards
Kai

The web folders in Windows are just shamefully bad and barely work at all, no matter against which server. With Vista it's even worse with Vista 64 even worse again. It's quite pathetic.
A rather good client that is commercial but inexpensive is webdrive http://webdrive.com/. Maybe others can also recommend an alternative.
Kind regards
Christian
Hi list,
as I mostly use the OpenCms Maven Plugin, I rarely used the OpenCms WebDAV feature.
Yesterday I started looking deeper into that feature.
As the excellent tutorial on http://www.opencms-wiki.org/WebDAV_access_to_the_OpenCms_VFS explains, it is possible to copy, move, delete and create resources with the plugin, whereas double-clicking and editing is not possible.
Additionally I found out, that it seems not to be possible to overwrite an existing file (copying a file from my local drive to the OpenCms WebDAV folder).
Can anyone confirm this or give me a hint if I am doing something wrong.
I used the Windows XP "Web Folders" feature and am not using
· the Eclipse WebDAV Plugin
· Total Commander WebDAV Plugin
· Novell Netdrive
At least a question to the guys from Alkacon: Do you have plans to add the missing features in the near futures?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Regards
