[opencms-dev] No language folder for default language

Hi all,

Was wondering: What are your experiences with using no language folder for the default language? How have you solved this?

Our sites are often multi-language, but in most (if not all) cases one language is primary, the rest are secondary. I use a language folder for each language, but I'd really like to skip the folder for the primary (i.e. default) language.

Is it safe to do this? Will stuff like localized categories be a problem?

To illustrate:

/ <-- root folder, for English content
/.categories/ <-- localized English categories

/it/ <-- "root" folder for Italian content
/it/.categories/ <-- localized Italian categories

/de/ <-- "root" folder for German content
/de/.categories/ <-- localized German categories

/fr/ <-- "root" folder for French content
/fr/.categories/ <-- localized French categories

Now, when editing content in English, wouldn't all the other localized categories be available? And when editing content in other languages, wouldn't both the localized categories for that specific language PLUS the same categories in English be available?

Thanks,
Paul
